Congratulations and thank-you for choosing to attend The Sleepy Hollow 50/50 12 hour ROGAINE. We have planned a fun and very challenging course that includes 30 CP's. Please read the following details and pass it along to your team mates. This was emailed to the registration contact only. Watch the blog for any last minute changes.
*MAPS- Each person will be provided a waterproof map on a 13x19 sheet at 1/24,000th scale with pre-marked CP's. The waterproof maps are capable of being marked on and becomes waterproof as well. Maps will be distributed at 9:30am as you check in.
*Required Gear- Whistle (one per team), compass (one per team), one square foot of hunters orange per team, hydration, food and of course clothing, headlamps and extra batteries, shoes.........and any other gear needed to stay happy for 12 hours in the woods. BE PREPARED for the worst expected weather. Cells phones are permitted for emergency use but signal is very weak. NO GPS devices allowed!!!
*Schedule- Check-in begins at 9:30am Sat. Maps will be handed out at check in. Pre race meeting at 10:45am with an immediate start at 11am following the meeting. Course closes at 11pm, any team coming in after that will be penalized. (see scoring) Each person is required to sign a liability waiver, (Please print and bring with you.)
*Course notes- Park boundaries are marked with yellow paint. The park is notorious for briar patches head high, so consider yourself warned. Do not disturb campers, horse riders, hunters, hikers or mountain bikers. Any reports will result in DQ.
*Safety- Safety is an extremely high priority. 1. Stay off of private property. 2. Carry plenty of food and water. 3. Help others in need. 4. We will be patrolling the roads , if you need help go to nearest road, or CP and wait. 5. Teams are required to stay together at all times. 6. Our cell phone numbers are listed on the map, call in an emergency. 7. Each team is required to have one square foot or lrager of hunters orange.
*Scoring- ROGAINE style scoring. (ex. CP63 is worth 60 points.) Penalty for being late is loss of highest CP and minus one point per minute late past 11pm. Score cards must be clearly punched in the correct location to get credit. Scorecards are printed on waterproof paper.
*Hash House- The Hash House will be open the entire duration of the event. Food and drinks will be available. Water is available at the Hash House, both campgrounds and two waterdrops as indicated on the map. We will have a small campfire.
*Weather Yes this event will go on despite bad weather!! Please be prepared!!! Directions to the park
