Congratulations and thank-you for choosing to attend The Cabin Fever 6 hour ROGAINE.
We have planned a fun and very challenging course that includes 21 CP's. Please read the following details and pass it along to your team mates. Watch the blog for any last minute changes.
Suggested travel route...From Chillicothe go south on 23/35....take the 35/50 east split.....exit rt. 50 east....follow 50 to Londonderry....turn left onto rt. 327.....follow 327 to the main entrance to the park. See Google map link.
*MAPS- Each person will be provided a waterproof maps on a 8.5X11 sheet at 1/24,000th scale with premarked CP's. The waterproof maps are capable of being marked on and becomes waterproof as well. The ink may bleed but will not wash off., scorecards are also waterproof. The maps have park trails, roads, streams, most buildings marked. Maps do not have undergrowth, atv trails, logging trails and rock formations marked. A 1km grid is on the map along with magnetic north. Maps will be distributed as you sign in after 8:30am. NO GPS DEVICES!!!!
*Required Gear- Whistle (one per team), compass (one per team), Team bib number (provided by Road ID) fastened on the back of team leader or solo, hydration, food and of course clothing, shoes.........and any other gear needed to stay happy for 6 hours in the woods. BE PREPARED for the worst expected weather. Cells phones are permitted for emergency use but signal is very weak. NO GPS devices allowed!!!
The solo or team leader must have on their person the following items; whistle, compass, bib number fastened on back. Plan on a surprise gear check.
*Schedule- Check-in begins at 8:30 Sat. Maps will be handed out as you check in after 8:30am. Pre race meeting at 9:45am with an immediate start at 10am following the meeting. Each person is required to sign a liability waiver,click here to download (Please print and bring with you.) Race ends promptly at 4pm. You will lose points for being late.
*Course notes- Forest boundaries are marked with yellow blazes. You may utilize trails, roads or bushwhacking if it is on state property. We will have one optional surprise challenge worth 20 extra points. No water drops, but water is available at the park office near the dump station (marked on map). The streams also have water running as well. The lake is dry due to reconstruction.
*Safety- Safety is an extremely high priority. 1. Stay off of private property. 2. Carry plenty of food and water. 3. Help others in need. 4. We will be patrolling the roads , if you need help go to nearest road, and wait. 5. Teams are required to stay together at all times. 6. Everyone is required to checkout when completed with the course. 7. do not cross frozen water (it may not be thick enough).
*Hash House- The Hash House will be open the entire duration of the event. Food and drinks will be available. Hot chili will be awaiting for everyone to enjoy around 3pm.
*Weather Yes this event will go on despite bad weather!! Please be prepared!!!
*Race Rules
1. Good sportsmanship always prevails!! We expect good faith from all participants, this is for fun, not a million dollar prize.
2. Park rules must be followed unless we have a waived rule.
3. DO NOT litter!
4. The team captain or solo is required to display a numbered race bib on their back at all times during the event. The number must be visible at all times. The team captain or solo will be responsible for mandatory gear checks.
5. The team captain or solo may report any other team or solo suspected of a violation to the race official at the finish table within 30 minutes of the event finish time.
6. Any team or solo suspected of misconduct be required to answer questions concerning the possible violation as reported. Violations may result in points deduction, disqualification or banned from participation.
7. When a control becomes misplaced or missing, if the team punches 2 controls surrounding the missing one the team will get credit for the missing one. Must be multiple reports of missing control. We will try to check during event to verify.
8. Teams must travel together (within earshot and visual or about 50 yards) and all members must be able to visually see each control punched. Violating this rule may result in disqualification, loss of points or banned from participation. If a team mate becomes injured or unable to finish, bring them back to the Hash House and at least 2 members may continue the course unranked.
9. Racers are NOT permitted to cross private property. Everyone must stay on public property. Violating this rule may result in disqualification, loss of points or banned from participation. Streams on private property is not public access.
10. No electronic navigation devices. Altimeters are OK. A compass is mandatory.
11. Wireless phones are recommended for emegency use.
12. A safety whistle is mandatory in case you get lost or injured.
13. All racers must check out before leaving the race venue.
14. Scoring will be Rogaine style. First number of checkpoint x 10. (ex. cp#63 = 60 points). Scorecards must be clearly punched in the correct location. Lost scorecards will result in a DNF.
15. Late penalty = loss of highest cp and minus 1 point per minute past race finish time.
16. Race director is always right!!
